NEWPORT, R.I. – Rhode Island made quick work of Stonehill Saturday night, sweeping the doubles action and then winning three singles matches in straight sets for a 4-0 victory.
The Rams (6-1) got a 6-0 victory from
Klara Nelander and
Sophie Herrman at No. 3 doubles for the first result of the match.
Grace Darcy and
Anastasia Pettersson teamed for a 6-1 win at No. 2, and
Nikki Fernando and
Ava Grnja grabbed a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles to complete the sweep.
Fernando kept things rolling with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Anya Chabria at No. 3 singles.
Katharina Spieth added a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles and Anastasia Petterson's 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 5 sealed the team victory.
While the matches were not completed,
Sophie Herrman was well ahead at No. 2 singles (6-4, 4-0) and
Klara Nelander led 6-2, 4-0 at No. 6 when action was halted.
Rhode Island will look for its third straight win when it hosts Sacred Heart at the International Hall of Fame Sunday night. The match begins at 5:45 p.m.
