How it Happened
Rhode Island Baseball was overpowered by No. 11 Oregon in the series finale between the two teams, dropping a 15-2 result in seven innings.

The game, which was prolonged by a three-hour rain delay, capped off the four-game series. Though Rhode Island (3-4) took the opener, the Ducks swept the next three contests for the series win.

Oregon (5-2) built its lead early, jumping out 4-1 by the end of the second inning. Rhody seemed to gain some momentum in the top of the third when DJ Perron churned out a one-out double, but that was when the rain set in. After the long pause, Rob Butler singled to drive in Perron but it was the Rams' last score of the game.

Nic Notarangelo's fifth-inning single accounted for URI's only hit in the final four innings. Meanwhile, the Ducks continued to pull away by hanging crooked numbers in the fourth, fifth and seventh before run-ruling their visitors.

Inside the Box Score
  • Rhode Island was limited to a season-low four hits. The team averaged a little over 12 per game in its first six contests of the season.
  • Redshirt senior Rob Butler was 1-for-3 with one RBI.
  • Junior Jack Hopko had the only other RBI, drawing a bases-loaded walk in the top of the first. He also had a hit to finish the day 1-for-2.
  • Graduate students DJ Perron (double) and Nic Notarangelo (single), as well as senior Eric Genther (single), also had hits.
  • Senior Anthony DePino and Perron each scored one run.
  • Both DePino and freshman Adonis Medina worked a team-best two walks apiece.
  • The Rhody pitchers struggled with freebies, issuing 10 walks while plunking two batters.
  • Redshirt sophomore Braeden Perry was the pitcher of record, moving him to 0-1 on the season. He tossed the first 2.0 innings of the game and allowed four runs before the rain delay.
  • Of the four arms that came out of the bullpen, only sophomore AJ Jones emerged unscathed. He gave up one hit in a scoreless sixth inning.
  • Freshman Danny Leikus made his first collegiate start behind the dish. He drew one walk and recorded six putouts to go along with one assist.
