How it Happened
Scott Penney's two run single in the top of the ninth lifted the Rhode Island baseball team to a 14-13 victory over New Mexico on Friday evening at Santa Ana Star Field.

Penney sent a ball through the left side to drive in DJ Perron and Nic Notarangelo, who had reached with a single and a walk. Rhode Island (4-4) had a chance to add two more insurance runs before the Lobos' closer ended the inning with back to back strikeouts.

On the heels of a leadoff double, New Mexico (5-5) got another lucky break in the bottom of the frame when the Rams attempted to put out the lead runner on a sac bunt and both players were controversially ruled safe. Joe Sabbath pitched around the threat, retiring the next three batters to preserve the win.
