How it Happened
A 20-point, second half deficit was too much to overcame as Rhode Island lost to Dayton 85-77 Wednesday night.
Rhody (17-10, 6-9 Atlantic 10) trailed 62-42 following a hoop-and-harm three-point play by Dayton's Enoch Cheeks with 11:18 to go. The Rams fought back to get within six points on four different occasions, but they were unable to complete the rally.
The final potential surge for URI came when
Jaden House hit a floater in the paint to get Rhody within 81-75 with 1:23 remaining, and the defense forced a turnover moments later. With a chance to make it a one-possession game, Rhode Island turned the ball back over when
Jamarques Lawrence tossed a pass to
David Green, who was looking away at the moment.
Dayton (19-9, 9-6 A-10) turned the loose ball into two free throws at the other end to ice the victory.
