PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Rhode Island won its fourth straight match via a shutout, blanking in-state rival Providence Saturday night.
The Rams (8-1) won all six singles matches in straight sets, dominating the match from top to bottom. Junior
Nikki Fernando gave up just one game at No. 3 singles, while
Grace Darcy won her match at No. 4, 6-2, 6-0.

Sophie Herrman won 6-4, 7-5 at No. 2 singles, and she also teamed with
Klara Nelander for a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles. Nelander won her singles match 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6.
Freshman Katharine Spieth – the reigning Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week – won again at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-2. She and
Anastasia Pettersson – who won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 5 singles – both won their 13th singles match of the year.
Rhode Island is now a combined 28-1 in singles spots No. 3 through No. 6 on the season.
The Rams play at Brown Sunday afternoon. The match begins at 1 p.m.
