KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island sophomore Avery Vale-Cruz was named the Under Armour Atlantic 10 Softball Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.

Vale-Cruz was dominant during URI's weekend series at George Mason. She was 1-0 with a 0.72 earned run average over 9.2 innings of work across two appearances for Rhode Island last week.

She allowed just one earned run over 6.0 innings of work in a 7-5, 10-inning win over George Mason. Vale-Cruz entered the game with URI trailing 4-1 and kept the team in the game until Rhody rallied to win the game. She struck out eight batters and walked just one in the six innings.

The next day, Vale-Cruz pitched 3.2 innings of scoreless relief. She struck out six batters and allowed just two hits and one walk. For the week, Vale-Cruz had 12 strikeouts and allowed just two walks.

Rhode Island plays at home this weekend for the first time in 2025. The Rams host Dayton in a three-game series that begins with a doubleheaded on Saturday, March 22 at 12 p.m.
