Rams Roll GW For Fourth Straight Win

KINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island won its fourth straight match – all on the road – as it opened Atlantic 10 play with a 4-0 victory at George Washington Saturday afternoon.

With doubles play setting the tone early, the Rams (12-2, 1-0 Atlantic 10) were in control throughout. Grace Darcy and Anastasia Pettersson teamed up for a 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles. Nikki Fernado and Katharina Spieth clinched the point with a 6-2 victory at No. 1. Rhody also held a 4-2 lead at No. 3 doubles with Klara Nelander and Sophie Herrman before that match was halted.

The strong play carried over to singles action. Darcy won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 singles for a 2-0 team lead. Pettersson and Nelander won in straight sets at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively to clinch the team win.

Though the matches were not completed, Katharina Spieth, Sophie Herrman and Nikki Fernando all led their respective matches when play was stopped for the day.

"This was a great team win today by the Rams," Rhode Island head coach Jonas Brobeck said. "We played our best doubles point of the year and continued the momentum into singles. I am proud of how we competed throughout the whole lineup! We are excited about another A-10 match tomorrow."

Rhode Island visits George Mason Sunday at 10 a.m.
