How it Happened
The Rhode Island Baseball team got into a four-run hole in the second inning of its series opener at Massachusetts, eventually falling 6-3 in the first game of Friday's doubleheader.
The hosts put up all six of their runs between the second and third, using three home runs, a pair of Rhody miscues and some small ball to build their advantage.
URI struggled to gain any rhythm offensively, finishing the game with just six total hits. The Rams eventually ended the shutout in the eighth when
Reece Moroney ripped a two-RBI double down the let field line, but the following batter lined out to end the inning. Rhode Island tacked on one more run in the ninth thanks to
Will Hindle's two-out sac fly but the game had already been decided.
