KINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island set the tone by grinding out the doubles point and then using strong singles play to defeat Davidson Saturday afternoon at the URI Tennis Complex.
The Rams (14-2, 3-0 Atlantic 10) won at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to clinch the point.
Nikki Fernando and
Katharina Spieth outlasted Kavya Patel and Daniela Porges, 7-6 (7). At No. 3,

"It was a fantastic doubles point today, which was decided after an hour and twenty minutes," Rhode Island head coach
Jonas Brobeck said. "I'm super proud of how brave we were, and how we went for it in big moments. That was the difference today. Everyone competed extremely well in singles, in very tough conditions. Again, this was a great team win to stay undefeated in conference."
Fernando grabbed her 17th singles win of the year by knocking off Porges in straight sets, 6-0, 7-5 at No. 3 singles.
Klara Nelander won her fifth straight singles match with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Ines Roti at No. 6.
Grace Darcy secured the team victory with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles.
