How it Happened
Rhode Island Baseball put up a run in four of the last five innings but was ultimately unable to overtake Bryant, falling 7-4 on Tuesday evening at Conaty Park.
A pair of solo shots from
Brody McKenzie and
Rob Butler pulled the Rams within one of the Bulldogs' lead over the seventh and eighth innings before Bryant delivered the final blow: a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth that lifted the team to its winning margin.
The Bulldogs took their initial edge in the opening frame on a two-run homer and an RBI triple that put them ahead 3-0. Bryant never relinquished its lead, adding a run on a second-inning single and another in the fourth when Noriega grounded out to drive in Papetti.
Eric Genther got Rhody on the board in the top of the fifth when he skied a sac fly out to left to plate
Anthony DePino. In the following frame, a miscue by the hosts allowed
DJ Perron to score an unearned run. Though McKenzie and Butler went yard to keep chipping away at the deficit, Papetti homered to put the game out of reach.
