LAKE NONA, Fla. – No. 4 Rhode Island advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2025 Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championship, sweeping No. 13 St. Bonaventure 4-0 Thursday morning.

Playing a short-handed St. Bonaventure squad, the Rams (15-5) got out to a quick 2-0 lead. Nikki Fernando and Katharina Spieth won at No. 1 doubles, 6-3. Because the Bonnies only had five available players, Klara Nelander and Sophie Herrman won via forfeit at No. 3 doubles, giving Rhody the doubles point. Nelander then got the forfeit victory at No. 6 singles, putting URI just two points away from clinching the win as singles play began.

Spieth made quick work of Isabella Venter at No. 1 singles, winning in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. From there, it was a race between Nikki Fernando at No. 3 singles, Grace Dracy at No. 4 singles and Anastasia Pettersson at No. 5 singles to see who would get the honors of completing the victory. Fernando got there first, beating Kashish Bote 6-3, 6-1.

Sophie Herrman was leading Sienna Smith 6-4, 6-6 at No. 2, while Pettersson and Darcy led their opponents 6-3, 4-2 and 6-1, 4-2, respectively, when play was halted.

"This was a good team performance today," Rhode Island head coach Jonas Brobeck said. "In postseason play, it usually the team that competes the best up and down the lineup that the most successful. We are very excited for a great match tomorrow with VCU."

The Rams advanced to face No. 5 VCU in the quarterfinals Friday, April 25 at 9 a.m. VCU defeated No. 12 Saint Louis in the opening round.
