Brubaker Crowned Champion, First Day of A-10 Outdoor Championship in the Books

FAIRFAX, VA. — Rhode Island wrapped up day one at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championship Saturday. After six events scored, the Rams collected 61 team points behind host George Mason (64). Rhody had six podium finishes including an individual title by Mason Brubaker in the pole vault. 
 

Day One Results

Championship Finishes

  • Mason Brubaker collected his first career outdoor pole vault title after clearing 5.00 meters. 

Prelims

  • Maddox Jordan won the preliminary round of the 1500m in 3:51.57 and automatically qualified for Sunday's final. 
  • The Rams had three advance to the 100m final after LJ Raye (10.50s), Alex Arbogast (10.55s), and Jacob Volkerts (10.63s) finished fourth, sixth, and eighth in the prelim.
  • Arbogast also qualified for the 200m final, finishing fourth in the preliminary round in 21.36 seconds. Steven Doss will join him in the final tomorrow after a qualifying time of 21.64 seconds. 
  • Antonio Capalbo finished first in the 800m preliminary in 1:51.90 to automatically qualify for the final on Sunday. 

Finals

  • Nick Martin had a podium finish in the 3000m steeple, finishing third in a school-record 8:55.14. Martin finished four seconds faster than the previous time which he set at Providence back on April 11 (8:59.14).  
  • Alexander Baez also took home hardware with a bronze medal finish in the hammer throw. His mark of 59.62 meters was third. Nate Field also picked up points for Rhody in the event, finishing fifth after throwing 51.98 meters. 
  • In the long jump, Ryan Tona claimed a podium finish with a mark of 7.40 meters for third place. Joachim Ennoo finished fourth (7.34m). 
  • Damian Scouloukas placed second in the pole vault. He cleared 4.70 meters for the silver medal finish. 
  • Douglas Ledger was Rhody's sixth podium finish of the day with a bronze medal in the javelin (60.46m).
  • Garrett Hartline was fifth in the 10,000m with a time of 30:52.29.

In the Decathlon

  • Ryan Tona sits atop of the decathlon with 3888 points, finishing first in three of the five events scored on day one. For the full breakdown of decathlon results click here.
