Rams Open Season at Stony Brook Invite

KINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island begins the 2025 season with three matches over three days at the Stony Brook Invite, which begins Friday afternoon when the Rams take on Siena in the first match of the tournament.

All six matches are scheduled to stream on FloCollege.com. Rhody will be playing against Siena, Central Connecticut State and the host Seawolves this weekend.

RHODE ISLAND VS. SIENA - SERIES NOTES

  • Rhode Island and Siena have met two times, with URI winning both previous matches.
  • The teams last played in 2022, a 3-1 victory for the Rams.
  • Siena was picked to finish 10th out of 12 teams in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference preseason poll.

RHODE ISLAND VS. CENTRAL CONNECTICUT STATE - SERIES NOTES

  • Rhode Island leads the all-time series with Central Connecticut State, 15-3. 
  • The teams last met in 2019 at the CCSU Invitational, a 3-1 win for Rhode Island.
  • CCSU was picked seventh out of nine teams in the Northeast Conference preseason poll. 

RHODE ISLAND VS. STONY BROOK - SERIES NOTES

  • Rhode Island leads the all-time series with Stony Brook, 5-2.
  • Stony Brook swept the Rams last season at URI's Art Carmichael Invitational.
  • Rhody had won the previous five meetings.
  • The Seawolves were picked to finish fifth out of 11 teams in the Coastal Athletic Association preseason poll.
  • This is URI's third visit to Stony Brook for volleyball. Rhode Island also visited Stony Brook for in-season tournaments in 2015 and 2011.

RAMS FARED WELL AT THE NET

  • Rhode Island is coming off a 2024 season in which it was one of the top blocking teams in the nation.
  • The Rams finished the season 33rd in the country and first in the Atlantic 10 with 294.5 blocks.
  • Rhody averaged 2.5 blocks per set, which led the A-10 and ranked 46th nationally.
  • The 294.5 blocks set a program record for the rally-point era (post 2001) for Rhode Island.
  • It was the fourth-highest total in program history.
  • The top three totals all happened during the sideout era during a three-year span from 1995-97.
  • URI had 372.0 in 1996, 342.0 in 1995 and 312.5 in 1997.  
  • Junior Chloe Abuto ranked third in the Atlantic 10 and 66th nationally with 134 total blocks last season.
  • She has 172 career blocks entering her third season.
  • The team returns its top two blockers from last season, as sophomore Havyn Rolle had 116 total blocks.
  • Abuto and Rolle gave Rhode Island two of the top six blockers in the A-10 last season.
