Buchanan, Farrell to Return for 2026 Season

KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island Football receiver Marquis Buchanan and quarterback Devin Farrell will return to the Rams for the 2026 season.

"We are thrilled that Marquis and Devin have made the decision to stay in Kingston," head coach Jim Fleming said. "In an ever-changing world of college athletics, to have their collective commitment to Rhode Island football is refreshing and speaks to the quality of young man that they both are. Both Marquis and Devin are fantastic representations of the kind of young men we have in our program."

Buchanan earned First Team All-American honors from Stats Perform, the Associated Press, FCS Football Central, and Phil Steele after an impressive 2025 campaign which included 78 catches and 1,337 receiving yards, the most in FCS this season.

The Providence, R.I. native tallied 1,124 receiving yards in 2024. He joined Brian Forster as the players in program history to record multiple 1,000-yard receiving seasons. Buchanan's 3,099 career receiving yards is third-most in team history.

Over the last three seasons, Buchanan has caught 202 passes, third-most in program history trailing only Forster (284) and Aaron Parker (216). Buchanan's 20 career touchdown catches is sixth-most in program history.

Farrell was named Third Team All-American by FCS Football Central after completing his second season as the Rams starting quarterback in 2025. He finished the season with 3,745 passing yards, the third most in a single season in team history and second most in the FCS in 2025. That propelled his career passing yards total to 5,474, making Farrell the fifth quarterback in program history to surpass 5,000 career passing yards.

After completing 65 percent of his passes in 2025, Farrell's career passing percentage rose to 62.7 percent, second highest in team history trailing JaJuan Lawson's 63.3 percent from 2017-2018.

Buchanan and Farrell were named First Team All-CAA in 2025 and have led Rhode Island to back-to-back postseason berths for the first time since 1984 and 1985. The Rams won a share of the CAA Championship in 2024 and received an at-large bid to the FCS Championship. This year, the Ram won the outright CAA Championship and earned the league's automatic bid to the postseason field.
