Kingston, R.I. – Maksim Kalina was named A10 Co-Offensive Player of the Week and
Lean Husterer was named A10 Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon.
Kalina scored two goals in the Rams' 4-3 win over Fordham Sunday evening, including the game-winning goal. Kalina missed the weekday match against Davidson, but came out strong off the bench for Rhody, playing 30 minutes in the win. Kalina scored the go-ahead goal in the 72nd minute with a beautiful header to make it 3-2. Less than three minutes later, Kalina broke the tie again with the game-winner to make it 4-3 and secure the victory.
Husterer scored two goals during the week as well. Husterer opened the scoring against Davidson Wednesday night when he buried a shot off of a great corner kick delivery. Husterer scored just seven minutes into the match against Fordham, when the Rams set up some great interplay off a long throw, and Husterer calmly looped a ball past the Fordham keeper. Husterer played in all 180 minutes in defense for Rhody this past week and has started all eleven games since joining the squad in late August.
Rhode Island now has three weekly awards to show for this season, with
William Synnestvedt picking up the A10 Defender of the Week for the week of Oct. 5.
Rhody looks to extend their four-game win streak Saturday night when they host La Salle at the URI Soccer Complex. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
