How it Happened
Rhode Island struggled to make baskets in the final minutes of regulation and fell to Fordham 70-66 in overtime on Saturday afternoon at the Ryan Center.Â
With 5:08 left in the second half,
Myles Corey drilled a three-point bucket to give Rhode Island (14-11, 5-7 Atlantic 10) a 60-52 lead. That would be the last field goal Rhode Island made in the game. Clutch three-point shooting from Fordham (14-12, 5-8 Atlantic 10) at the end of regulation and into overtime helped the visitors overcome a 12-point Rhode Island lead.Â
Fordham's Roor Akhuar made a 3-pointer with 22 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game at 63 and force overtime. Then, in the overtime period Christian Henry tacked on another 3-point bucket with 1:12 remaining to give Fordham a 67-64 lead. From there, the teams exchanged free throws leading to the Fordham win.Â
A pair of
RJ Johnson free throws, three minutes into the second half gave Rhode Island its 12-point advantage, its largest of the game. Fordham narrowed the deficit to two possessions five minutes into the second half.Â
Rhode Island then rattled off a 7-0 run capped off with an ally-oop from
Jonah Hinton to
Keeyan Itejere. The dunk gave Rhode Island a 47-36 lead with 12:45 left in the second half. Itejere ultimately fouled out of the game with two minutes remaining in regulation.Â
