RHODE ISLAND VS. FORDHAM - Series notesÂ
- Rhody returns home to host Fordham for the second time this season Saturday at the Ryan Center.
- In the previous meeting back on Jan. 31, URI left the Bronx with a 61-47 win over Fordham.
- Historically, the all-time series is even at 23-23. Rhode Island has won four of the last five meetings against Fordham.
- It's the first trip to the Ryan Center for Fordham since Jan. 17, 2024. URI handed the visiting Rams a 55-44 loss.
- The last Fordham win in the all-time series was a thrilling 74-73 overtime win at Rose Hill Gym on Feb. 22, 2023.
- Three URI players scored in double figures in the last Battle of the Rams, led by freshman Vanessa Harris and her 13 points on a perfect 7-for-7 at the charity stripe. Sophomore Albina Syla had a team-high 11 rebounds in the Rhody win.Â
SCOUTING THE (FORDHAM) RAMS
- Last time out, Fordham fell to Duquesne 80-67.
- The Bronx-based Rams snapped a six-game skid after they defeated Saint Louis 42-39 for their second Atlantic 10 win of the season Feb. 11.
- In the loss against the Dukes, Lakresha Edwards scored a career-high 24 points.
- It was the ninth time this season Edwards has scored in double figures, and the first 20-point performance for the junior guard.
BOUNCE BACK
- The game Saturday will be senior day. Prior to the game, seniors Valentina Ojeda, Ta'Viyanna Habib, Brooklyn Gray, Palmire Mbu, and Ines Debroise will be honored for their accomplishments in Kingston.
- Senior managers Korie Mangler and Kelly Peter will also be honored for their hardwork and dedication to the program.
- Rhody is looking to bounce back after being handed its first loss of Atlantic 10 play last time out at La Salle.Â
MAKE IT A DOUBLE-DOUBLE
- Last time out at La Salle, Rhode Island sophomore Albina Syla turned in her sixth double-double of the season, pairing a team-high 16 points with 11 rebounds against the Explorers.
- In the win over Saint Louis, Syla was perfect at the free throw line, connecting on all four of her attempts, and added a block and two steals in the victory.
- The game against La Salle was the 10th time this season Syla grabbed 10+ boards.Â
- She poured in a career-best 23 points on 9-of-16 from the floor in the win over Duquesne.
- The captain averages 8.5 points and leads the team with her 7.0 rebounds per game.
- After her performances against Dayton and Davidson, Syla was named to the Atlantic 10 Weekly Honor Roll.
- A year ago, the Vantaa, Finland native contributed 1.8 points and 1.5 rebounds over 19 games played in her rookie season.
- She opened her sophomore campaign scoring in double figures the first three straight games.
- Syla has worked her way into the starting five in her second season in Kingston, earning the start in all 26 games this season.
