Final Game at GATA Challenge Canceled By Weather

STATESBORO, Ga. - Rhode Island's game against Eastern Kentucky at the GATA Challenge has been canceled due to wet field conditions. The game will not be made up.

The Rams were able to play three of their five scheduled games at the GATA Challenge, which was hosted by Georgia Southern. After winning the first two games of the weekend, Rhody trailed 2-1 against Georgia Southern in the top of the sixth inning on Saturday. The Rams had runners on second and third base with just one out when a severe storm hit the area, and the game was halted and eventually called, giving Georgia Southern the victory.

URI's game against Tennessee Tech on Saturday night was canceled. Attempts to resume the tournament on Sunday morning were fruitless, with the field deemed too wet to play on. Rhode Island had to depart Georgia and bus back home ahead of the winter storm expected to hit locally Sunday night.

The Rams are scheduled to be off from competition until March 7, when they travel to Saint Joseph's to begin Atlantic 10 play.
