RHODE ISLAND VS. SAINT JOSEPH'S - SERIES NOTES
  • Rhody and Saint Joseph's will meet for the 114th time on Saturday.
  • The visiting Hawks lead the series, 62-51.
  • The home team has won each of the last seven meetings in the series.
  • Rhode Island is 29-24 when hosting Saint Joseph's.
  • The last time a road team won in the series was a 71-61 victory for Rhody on Jan. 15, 2020.
  • Rhode Island is 9-5 at home overall and 3-4 in Atlantic 10 home games this season, while Saint Joseph's is 4-7 overall in road games, including 4-3 in league road games.
  • The Hawks come to Kingston riding a three-game winning streak, while Rhody has dropped two in a row. 
  • Saint Joseph's is the least-whistled team in the Atlantic 10, getting called for an average of just 14.0 fouls per game. That is the sixth lowest average nationally.
  • Guard Derek Simpson orchestrates the offense, leading the A-10 with 142 assists this season.
  • He averages 5.1 assists per game.
  • Simpson also leads the conference in free throw percentage at 91.4 percent.
  • The Hawks limit opponents to 41.0 percent from the field, which ranks second in the A-10 and 35th in the country.
  • The game will feature two of the top shot blockers in the Atlantic 10. Justice Ajogbor ranks second in the league with 2.25 blocks per game for Saint Joseph's, while Rhode Island's Keeyan Itejere is seventh in the league with 1.39 per game.

RAMS TO HONOR EIGHT PLAYERS, FOUR STUDENT MANAGERS SATURDAY

  • Saturday is Senior Day for the Rams. The team will honor eight players during a pregame ceremony, and then four student managers at halftime,
  • The players being honored will be guards Tyler Cochran, RJ Johnson, Myles Corey and Jimmy Ball, and forwards Alex Crawford, Keeyan Itejere, Mouhamed Sow and Drissa Traore.
  • Ball, a walk-on, is the longest tenured player on the team and is inn his fourth season with the program.
  • Traore has played in 50 games over the last two seasons for Rhode Island. 
  • The managers being honored are Anthony Giovanelli, Jackson Berch Stepanian, Justin Bianchi and Jesse Russell. 
  • Giovanelli and Berch Stepanian are the longest tenured managers on the team staff, having been involved with the program throughout their time as undergrads.

TRIPP RETURNS TO THE COURT

  • After missing the previous four games, wing Jahmere Tripp had 10 points at St. Bonaventure on Thursday.
  • He came off the bench and played 18 minutes.
  • Tripp's presence is key for the Rams, who are 1-4 in the five games he has not played this season.
  • Rhode Island is 5-1 in the six games that Tripp has started this year.
  • Over his last four games, he is 12-for-18 (.667) from 3-point range, raising his season 3-point shooting percentage to .418.
  • Tripp has 18 double-digit scoring efforts this season, and Rhody is 13-5 in those games.
  • In two seasons at Fordham before coming to URI, Tripp reached double digits 12 times in 61 games.
