RHODE ISLAND VS. RICHMOND - SERIES NOTES

  • Rhode Island and Richmond are meeting for the 34th time overall and the second time this season.
  • The visiting Spiders lead the overall series 20-13, but URI won the first meeting this year 69-68 at Richmond.
  • In the first meeting of the season, Rhode Island's RJ Johnson hit a mid-range jump shot with two seconds on the clock to lift the Rams to the victory.
  • The first meeting was close throughout, with neither side leading by more than seven points at any time.
  • Rhody's Tyler Cochran had 18 points, seven rebounds and three steals in the win, while Keeyan Itejere and Jahmere Tripp each had 10 points. Itejere added eight rebounds.
  • Aidan Argabright (20 points) and Jaden Daughtry (10 points) both had big games off the bench for Richmond. 
  • Itejere was the only starter for either team to score in double figures in the first meeting.
  • Richmond's bench averages 36.0 points per game, which ranks second in the league and seventh nationally.
  • Rhode Island is 8-6 all time when hosting Richmond, though the Spiders have won their last three visits to the Ryan Center.
  • The last time the Rams beat Richmond at home was an 85-67 win on Feb. 13, 2018.
  • Richmond enters the weekend on a five-game losing streak, while Rhode Island has won three of its last four.

SANTORO OIL SPONSORING FOOD DRIVE OVER NEXT TWO HOME GAMES

  • Santoro Oil is partnering with Rhode Island Athletics to sponsor a food drive at both upcoming home men's basketball games on Saturday, Feb. 7 against Richmond and Saturday, Feb. 14 against Fordham.
  • Every fan who brings a non-perishable food item to either this Saturday's game against Richmond or next Saturday's game against Fordham will receive a voucher for two tickets to the Wednesday, March 4 home game against Duquesne.
  • Fans are encouraged to support the local community on behalf of the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.
  • Through donations, federal commodities and purchases, the Food Bank distributes healthy, culturally relevant food to pantries, meal sites, senior programs, and school programs that serve Rhode Islanders in need.
  • The program supports 147 member agencies statewide, providing food assistance to nearly 85,000 Rhode Islanders each month. 

SOUTH COUNTY HEALTH PRESENTS SECOND ANNUAL BABY RACE AT HALFTIME

  • Saturday's game will feature the second-annual Baby Race, presented by South County Health.
  • Each of the eight babies participating in the race will receive scholarships from South County Health.
  • The contestants are all between the ages of six months and 12 months old.

CONFERENCE PLAY REACHES MIDPOINT

  • With nine regular-season games remaining, Rhode Island is halfway through the Atlantic 10 play.
  • Heading into the weekend, the Rams are in eighth place, a half game behind Davidson and Duquesne. 
  • Davidson hosted Loyola Chicago Friday night, while Duquesne hosts George Washington Saturday afternoon.
  • Rhody travels to George Washington Tuesday night. The Revolutionaries enter the weekend a half game behind URI in the standings.
  • The top four teams in the final standings earn a double bye, while the teams in fifth through 10th all get a bye as well. 
  • This year's Atlantic 10 Championship runs from March 11-15 at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh.

FREE THROW TRIPS HELP LINE UP WINS

  • As a team, Rhode Island is shooting 72.1 percent at the free throw line.
  • That is tied for the 10th best team single-season percentage in program history.
  • In Archie Miller's first season at the helm, the Rams shot 74.4 percent from the line, giving his squads two of the 10 best single-season free throw percentages in URI history. 
  • In the 31 seasons before Miller arrived, Rhode Island shot 72.0 percent or better from the free throw line just one time.
  • That was in 2006-07, when the Rams shot 72.2 percent from the line  
  • The Rams are 8-1 when they make at least 16 free throws in a game.
