How it Happened
George Washington scored four runs across the seventh and eighth innings to rally past Rhode Island, 7-4, in the Atlantic 10 opener Friday afternoon.

Rhode Island went scoreless over the final five innings after holding a 4-3 lead through six. A three-run seventh inning separated the Revolutionaries from the visiting Rams. All three George Washington runs in the inning came on balls that did not leave the infield. The Revolutionaries scored their first run of the frame on a passed ball, then added two more on a fielder's choice and a ground out.

The Rams opened the game with a 3-0 lead through two innings. Jack Hopko doubled in the top of the first to plate Reece Moroney and Aidan Botti. In the second inning, Scott Penney singled through the right side to score TJ Gormley.

Rhode Island's final run came in the fourth when Nicholas Toro singled to bring home Hopko and give the Rams a 4-3 advantage. George Washington responded by scoring the game's final four runs to take the series opener.
