RHODE ISLAND VS. RICHMOND - SERIES NOTES

  • The Rams continue Atlantic 10 action at Richmond on Saturday.
  • It's the second meeting all-time between the Rams and the Spiders.
  • A season ago, Rhody fell at Richmond 13-8 in the first-ever meeting on March 29.
  • Rhode Island head coach Jenna Slowey was on staff at Richmond from 2017-21. She helped the Spiders to an overall record of 64-16 and back-to-back conference titles in 2018 and 2019, earning NCAA bids both years. In 2020, the Spiders were 7-0 – including a victory at No. 6 Virginia – and had reached as high as No. 10 in the national rankings before the season was ended by the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Last time out, URI beat Siena 7-6 for the third win of the season, and first on Rhody's "home" turf at Beirne Stadium.
  • Richmond opened A-10 play last time out and picked up a 15-6 win over VCU.
  • The Spiders are led by Alexis Morton and her 34 points on a team-high 18 goals and 16 assists.

LAST TIME VS. THE SPIDERS...

  • The Rams were unable to overcome an early deficit, battling but eventually falling to Richmond, 13-8 a season ago (3/29/25)
  • Rhode Island went goal-for-goal with the Spiders to start the game. Brinley Myers scored a pair within the first five minutes of play, but Richmond had six unanswered goals to end the quarter and built an 8-2 lead after the first 15 minutes.
  • The Rams outscored Richmond 5-1 in the second half, and 4-0 in the fourth period.  After being down by as many as nine goals, Rhody was able to trim the deficit to five in the final quarter. Despite the effort for the Rams, it wasn't enough as time expired and the Spiders hung on to win.
