How it Happened
Rhode Island pulled off one of the most improbable comebacks in program history as
Nicholas Toro launched a three-run walk-off home run for a 10-9 win over George Mason Sunday afternoon.
Trailing 9-3 with two outs and nobody on base, things looked as bleak as the drizzly rain falling down on Beck Field. Ryan Henchel doubled to get things started.
Scott Penney followed with a single to drive him in.
Aidan Botti doubled to put two runners in scoring position before
Reece Moroney lined a single off the pitcher's back for an infield hit that brought Penney in and put runners on the corners.
Down 9-5,
Jack Hopko drew a walk to load the bases.
Ryan King followed with a walk of his own that forced Botti in to pull the Rams within three runs. Moroney came in on a wild pitch to make the score 9-7. Then, on a 3-2 pitch, Toro muscled a ball to deep left field for his first home run of the season, setting off a wild celebration for the Rams.
