How it Happened
Offensive woes plagued Rhode Island as it dropped the regular-season finale at Fordham 61-49 Saturday afternoon.
Jahmere Tripp had his offense going early for Rhode Island (16-15, 7-11 Atlantic 10). He hit a pair of 3-pointers and added a hoop-and-harm three-point play to help Rhode Island build a 20-10 lead just 12 minutes into the game.
Fordham (17-14, 8-10 A-10) used a 10-0 to tie it 23-23. A
Tyler Cochran 3-pointer and an
RJ Johnson jumper at the buzzer helped Rhody take a 28-25 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Fordham held URI to 21 points on 7-of-26 shooting from the field. Rhody could not get to the basket and was forced to settle for outside looks. Rhode Island was 2-for-14 from the perimeter after halftime.
The duo of DeJour Reaves (17 points) and Rikus Schulte (14 points, 13 rebounds) was too much for URI. The hosts took the lead for good on a Reaves jumper that made the score 41-40 with 10:43 to go. Fordham used the shot to start an 11-2 run, and URI could not mount a rally.
