How it Happened
Rhode Island used a late offensive surge to pull away from Brown for its first win of the season, defeating the Bears 19-9 in seven innings.
The Rams scored six runs across the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to build a double-digit advantage. Ryan Henschel's grand slam in the sixth pushed Rhode Island ahead 16-7. It was Henschel's second home run of the game after he hit a solo shot in the fourth inning.
Both Henschel and Jack Hopko homered in the fourth inning. Hopko's three-run blast scored Ryan Thompson and Reece Moroney and helped the Rams build a 10-7 lead through four innings.
Rhode Island opened the game with four runs in its first at-bat. Thompson singled home two runs and TJ Gormley doubled in another pair to give the Rams a 4-0 lead. Brown responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game.
The Rams regained the lead in the second inning when Aidan Botti delivered an RBI triple and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Moroney to make it 6-4.
Rhode Island added two more runs in the seventh inning to close out the victory.
