How it Happened
La Salle took game two of the weekend series with a 4-3 win over Rhode Island on Saturday afternoon at Bill Beck Field. Rhode Island threatened in its final at-bat of the game, putting the tying run on third and the winning run on second with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, but could not bring either runner home.

The deciding run came in the top of the eighth. La Salle's Rueban Livingston led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a failed pick off attempt. The Explorers' Kosei Suzuki followed with an RBI single to plate Livingston and give the Explorers a 4-3 lead.

La Salle applied early pressure, scoring in three of the first four innings to build a 3-1 advantage. Rhode Island got on the board in the fourth when Ryan Thompson walked and came around to score on a double down the left-field line by Ryan King.

The Rams evened the score in the fifth. With runners on first and second and no outs, Paul Calandrelli laid down a sacrifice bunt to move both into scoring position. Reece Moroney followed with a two-run single to score Ryan Henschel and Scott Penney, tying the game at 3-3.

Rhode Island's pitching settled in after the early innings. Starter Jake Cullen retired his final four batters, including a 1-2-3 fifth inning. Connor Johnston followed retiring the first seven batters he faced, before the Explorers scored the eventually winning run in the eighth inning. The Explorers held on to even the series at one game apiece heading into Sunday's rubber match.
