How it Happened
Evan Maloney pitched six strong innings paving the way to Rhode Island's 9-6 win over La Salle in Sunday's rubber match at Bill Beck Field.

Maloney allowed just one hit and three total base runners during the outing. He retired 11 of his final 12 batters and retired the side in order in five of the six innings he pitched. AJ Jones and Luc Lavigueur  impressed in relief of Maloney. Jones pitched a 1-2-3 seventh before Lavigueur retired the side in order in the eighth.

La Salle's six runs came in the top of the ninth. Rhode Island struggled to throw strikes, walking three batters and hitting two Explorers. Manny Santos came in for the save with one out and a runner on second. Santos retired the next two batters to ice the game.

The Rhode Island offense was consistent all day after jumping on La Salle early with a two run first inning. After Scott Penney's lead off walk, he then scored on an RBI double from Reece Moroney. Moroney scored on Jack Hopko's RBI double during the next at-bat.

The Rams tacked on another two runs in the bottom of the second inning. The first three men reached base, setting up Paul Calandrelli's RBI ground out that scored Joel Collado. Moroney then singled to left field, scoring Ryan Henschel from third base.

The Rhode Island offense kept impressing into the middle of the game opening up a 7-0 lead. Ryan King hit a solo home run to give the Rams a 5-0 advantage in the fifth. Then in the sixth, Hopko and Ryan Thompson each picked up RBIs to extend the Rams lead.
