How it Happened
Rhode Island dropped the first two games of its three-game series at St. Bonaventure on Friday in upstate New York. The Rams fell to the Bonnies 7-4 in game one and 15-13 in game two.
Game One - St. Bonaventure 7, Rhode Island 4.
Rhode Island's offense managed to hit four solo home runs throughout the course of game one of the day's doubleheader. However, St. Bonaventure Alex Hebenstreit launched a grand slam in the bottom of the eight to distance the home team from the Rams.Â
Scott Penney homered on the first at-bat of the game to give Rhode Island a 1-0 lead. The Bonnies scored the next three runs before Ryan Thompson struck one of his two solo home runs of the game in the fourth to cut the St. Bonaventure lead to 3-2.Â
After the Hebenstreit grand slam in the eighth, Rhode Island threatened in the ninth with solo home runs from Jack Hopko and Ryan Thompson but the damage had been and the Bonnies took game one of the series.
Game One - St. Bonaventure 15, Rhode Island 13.
In a game that featured 28 combined runs and 28 combined hits, the Rams fell to the Bonnies in an offensive affair in game two of the day.
Jack Hopko tripled to score Reece Moroney in the top of the seventh to take a 13-12 lead. The Bonnies enjoyed a three-run bottom of the seventh to take the lead and walk away with the eventual win 15-13.
The Rams led by as many as four after Danny Leikus hit a sacrifice fly to center field in the third that plated Ryan King. The Bonnies and Rams exchanged leads over the next three innings before the Bonnies iced the game with their three-run seventh.

- Rhode Island combined for seven hits from three different Rams in game one of the day.
- Ryan Thompson went 3-for-4 in the day's first game with two solo home runs.
- Jack Hopko went 2-for-4 in game one with a solo home run. Hopko only got better in game two of the day going 3-for-5 with two RBI, a home run, and a triple.
- Scott Penney finished game one with two hits including a home run. Penney continued to impress in the day's second game going 4-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored.
- Aidan Botti, Danny Leikus, and Ryan Henschel each had two-hit games in game two.
- Manny Santos and Parker Aikens each had scoreless outings in game two.
