How It Happened
Rhode Island scored five runs in back-to-back innings to turn a tie game into a blowout as the Rams defeated New Haven 13-3 Tuesday afternoon.
With the score tied 3-3 after three innings, URI went to work. The first Rhody run in the top of the fourth came inn without the benefit of a hit.
Nicholas Toro walked,
Brian Connolly was hit by a pitch and
Aidan Botti walked to load the bases.
Ryan Henschel walked to force Toro home.
Scott Penney cleared the bases with a double to center to put Rhode Island ahead 7-3.
Reece Moroney capped the rally with an RBI single to make it a five-run lead.
An inning later, Rhody scored five more runs, all of which came in after two outs. With Botti on third and Henschel on second,
Ryan Thompson walked. Moroney hit a two-run single to drive in Botti and Henschel.
Jack Hopko followed with a three-run homer that gave the Rams a double-digit lead at 13-3, wrapping the scoring for both sides. Â
