ORLANDO, Fla. - Rhode Island matched its best finish in nine years, placing fourth at the 2026 Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championship, thanks to a strong final round of competition Wednesday.
Led by individual top 10 finishes from
Luke Stennett and
Aidan O'Donovan, Rhode Island was five-under par as a team in the final. It was the second straight day in the red for the Rams, who finished the tournament two-over.
Richmond won the team title at 14-under par, followed by George Mason (minus-four) and VCU (plus-one).
"I couldn't be more proud of the guys today," Rhode Island head coach
Gregg Burke said. "We started well but then hit a bad stretch from holes 7-9, where we dominated the field yesterday. At one point we were four over as a team, but from holes 13-15 we were 11 under for the four guys who scored for us."
O'Donovan was four-under par over the final nine holes, helping him shoot a five-under 67 on the day. He was the biggest mover on the final day of the tournament, leaping 17 spots on the individual leaderboard to tie for ninth place overall.
Stennett carded a three-under par 69 for the second consecutive round. He was URI's top finisher, placing sixth in the fielder of 71.
Tyler Bruneau finished in a tie for 20th place with a plus-four final round, while
Josiah Tong had five birdies - including three in a row in his final six holes - to give the Rams a plus-2 74.
Tony Liu was one stroke behind Tong, as all five Rhody golfers finished among the top 33.
"Aidan was brilliant after one bad swing on nine and made four straight birdies at one point. Josiah did not have his good stuff but was easily the best putter in the field. Luke played an impeccable round of golf as a ball striker and was the best player on the golf course today," Burke said. "Tony finished just two over for the final 48 holes for us, which was incredible. Tyler struggled today but he was our best golfer second semester."
"We were four over and in seventh in the middle of the round, but we dug deep and played the tough-minded golf we played in eras where Joe Leavitt and Jordy Brajcich were the spiritual leaders," Burke said. "As always - late in the round, late in the tournament, late in the year is the mark of a tough team. This team did that and more today."
Leavitt was a member of the 2015 URI team that placed fourth at the A-10 championship, while Brajcich was part of the 2021 squad that did the same at the league tournament.
For Rhode Island, it matched the program's best finish since 2018, when it placed third.
