KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island junior
Josiah Tong was one of five players named to the 2026 Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Academic All-Conference Team, the league announced Monday.
In addition to serving as URI's assistant captain, Tong had a 4.0 grade-point average in Management. A member of URI's Honors Student Program, Tong has made the Dean's List in all six semesters he has been at the university. He also served as a Student Leader for URI's Athletes in Action mentorship program.
Tong helped the Rams place fourth in the team standings at the 2026 A-10 Championship, the program's highest finish since 2018. He also helped the team qualify for the National Golf Invitational for the second straight year.
"This is a wonderful tribute to Josiah's undying dedication to being the best he can be in everything he does," Rhode Island head coach
Gregg Burke said. "While it would be easy, and likely accurate, to say that his 4.0 gpa is based on his intelligence, it is much more that that. His study habits and hours dedicated to class work are incredible. Most tournaments his laptop is open before the van leaves the parking lot or before the plane takes off."
Tong played in all 12 tournaments Rhode Island was in this season, posting four top-10 individual finishes. He helped URI win four team titles this year while averaging 72.8 strokes per round.
One of five golfers named to the A-10 All-Academic Team, Tong is the 12th Ram to earn the distinction. He is the first Rhode Island golfer named to the squad since Jordan Brajcich in 2022.
