GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP, N.J. - Rhode Island struggled on the final day of the Wildcat Spring Invitational, shooting 24-over par as a team and finishing fifth out of 12 teams Tuesday.

The Rams slipped one spot in the team standings. Villanova won the team title by two strokes over Georgetown. The host Wildcats were plus-30 as a team for the tournament, while Seton Hall was plus-32.

Those teams were well ahead of the pack. Navy (plus-44), Seton Hall (plus-45) and Rhode Island (plus-50) rounded out the top five.

As a team, URI's lineup combined for 30 bogeys, three double bogeys, one triple bogey and a quadruple bogey. On the other end, Rhody has eight birdies and one eagle.

"We played our worst golf of the year," Rhode Island head coach Gregg Burke said. "We had more double bogies than we've had in years. Teams that we have beaten by significant margins this year beat us handily.
 
"It always comes down to this; the toughest players play their best late in the round, late in the tournament, and late in the season. We need to decide if we're the team we fielded this fall or the team that has played this spring." 

Rhode Island has one more tournament before the Atlantic 10 Championship. The Rams play at the Rutherford Intercollegiate hosted by Penn State April 18-19.
