How it Happened
Saint Joseph's scored eight runs in the top of the ninth inning to come from behind and beat Rhode Island 14-12 on Saturday afternoon at Bill Beck Field.Â
Hawks third baseman Richard Beggy lifted a three-run home run right field with two outs in the ninth to give St. Joe's its first lead of the afternoon. Beggy's homer capped off the eight-run inning and lifted the visitors to the series win.Â
In the bottom of the ninth,
Jack Hopko singled to start the inning bringing the tying run to the plate. The Hawks then induced a ground ball double play and a fly out to end the game.
The Rams offense had been clicking all day. Rhode Island has built up a 12-6 after scoring two runs in both the seventh and eighth innings. In the eighth,
Brian Connolly singled to right field, which scored both
Derek Maceda and
Will Hindle. In the seventh, the Rams plated runs on a bases loaded,
Reece Moroney walk and and RBI ground out from Hopko.Â
