Women’s Basketball 2026-27 Roster Set

KINGSTON, R.I. — Rhode Island women's basketball head coach Colleen Mullen has announced the program's complete 2026-27 roster, featuring six transfers and five incoming freshmen. Along with two returning players from last season's Atlantic 10 championship squad, the Rams will begin their title defense this fall.

Joining Rhody as freshmen are Alex Newson, Ioana Savu, Naiara QuintanaKatie Liggio and Lauren Bousquet.

Newson arrives in Kingston from Stratford, Prince Edward Island, Canada, after a standout career at King's Christian Collegiate. She averaged 16.8 points and 5.6 rebounds per game while earning OSBA First Team All-Star and WNPA Second Team All-Star honors. Newson also was selected to the All-Canadian Game and most recently represented Canada at the U18 Women's AmeriCup.

Savu comes to Rhode Island from Ploie?ti, Romania, where she has competed with the Romanian National Team. A graduate of Colegiul National Mihai Viteazul, she earned MVP honors. This summer, Savu will represent Romania at the U20 FIBA European Championships in Bulgaria. She averaged 18.4 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game for her club team during the 2025-26 season.

Quintana joins Rhody from Vigo, Spain, following a stellar season with Celta in which she averaged 25.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game. She has been part of Spain's national team program since the U13 level, participating in national team camps and competing in multiple Spanish National Championships throughout her youth career. Quintana brings extensive international experience to Kingston as she begins her collegiate career this fall.

Liggio joins the Rams following a decorated four-year career at Red Bank Catholic High School in New Jersey, where she scored 1,050 career points. The guard played AAU basketball with the NJ Shoreshots and averaged 11.2 points per game as a senior. During the 2025-26 season, Liggio knocked down 59 3-pointers and finished a perfect 13-for-13 from the free throw line, highlighted by a career-high 27-point performance. She also helped lead Red Bank Catholic to two state championships.

Bousquet, the second Rhode Island native on this year's squad, attended Moses Brown School. She played all four years for the Quakers and was named the Rhode Island Gatorade Player of the Year twice, in 2024-25 and against in 2025-26. The power forward collected 27.3 points and 7.9 rebounds per game, surpassing 2,000 career points while at Moses Brown.

The freshman class joins a six-player transfer class that was announced in May.

Rhode Island also welcomes back senior Sophia Vital and redshirt freshman Amori Jarrett. Vital played a key role in leading the Rams to the program's first Atlantic 10 Tournament championship and just its second NCAA Tournament appearance. She earned Atlantic 10 Third Team honors for the first time in her career and enters her final collegiate season looking to build on last year's success. Jarrett redshirted her freshman season while recovering from a knee injury and is set to make her collegiate debut in 2026-27.
