Rams Fall To Texas-El Paso, 86-69

EL PASO, Texas (AP) - Brandon Wolfram scored 27 points and pulled down nine rebounds to lead Texas-El Paso to an 86-69 victory over Rhode Island Tuesday night in the first game of the opening round of the Sierra Providence Sun Classic Basketball Tournament.

Wolfram was 9-10 from the field and 9-10 from the free throw line. Jarvis Mullahon added 18 points and William Smith 17 for the Miners (8-2). Mullahon was 7-of-10 from the field, including four of six 3-pointers. Smith went 7-of-11 from the field, had five rebounds and dished out three assists.

Eggie McRae finished with only three points for the Miners but dished out 10 assists.

UTEP hit 69 percent of its shots in the first half. Rhode Island (3-8) made only 36 percent of its shots in dropping its fifth straight contest.

Tavorris Bell led Rhode Island with 16 points and six rebounds. The Rams' leading scorer, Zach Marbury, younger brother of New Jersey Nets guard Stephon Marbury, finished with 10 points on just 3-of-16 shooting.

UTEP outrebounded Rhode Island 46-40.
