EL PASO, Texas (AP) - Isaac Spencer scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds
to lead Murray State to a 80-74 victory over Rhode Island Wednesday in the
consolation final of the Sierra Providence Sun Classic Basketball Tournament.
The Racers (8-3) had their lead cut to 73-71 with 2:11 remaining in the
contest but three Rams turnovers and 7-of-10 free throw shooting by the Racers
down the stretch cost the Rams (3-9) any chance of winning.
Aubrey Reese, who scored 30 points in Tuesday's opening round game, scored
18 points, grabbed five rebounds and had three assists for the Racers. Rod
Murray scored 13 points and had six rebounds for the Racers while Mike Turner
added 11 points and five boards.
Zach Marbury led Rhode Island with 21 points and had eight rebounds.
Tavorris Bell followed with 17 points, Tip Vinson scored 14 points and Andrew
Wafula added 11. Justin Henry scored 4 points but led Rhode Island with 13
rebounds.
Murray State, which held a 40-32 halftime lead, outshot the Rams 46 percent
to 40 percent and outrebounded the Rams 44-42.
