Women's Soccer Defeats Brown 2-0

Oct. 15, 2000

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Freshman Erica Young scored her third goal of the season to lead Rhode Island to a 2-0 victory over Brown in a non-conference match at Stevenson Field on Sunday afternoon. The win was the 13th of the season for the Rams, eclipsing the single-season record for wins in a season of 12 set in 1984, 1998 and 1999.

The two teams battled through a scoreless first half and the first 27 minutes of the second half before Young received a pass from sophomore Heather Kasperek on the left hand side, and booted the ball over Brown keeper Sarah Gervais and into the corner of the net for a 1-0 URI lead at the 72 minute mark.

With just over three minutes remaining in the contest, Gina Rosen put the game out of reach when she scored an unassisted goal from 25 yards out on the right side of the field.

Sophomore Jamie Epperlein, who earned her third shutout of the season, made 10 saves for the Rams.

URI returns to action on Friday, October 20 when they travel to Cincinnati, Ohio, for an Atlantic 10 contest with Xavier.
