Jessee Announces Assistant Coach Erin Murphy

KINGSTON, R.I. — Rhode Island women's soccer head coach Megan Jessee announced the addition of Erin Murphy to the coaching staff as an assistant coach.

Murphy joins the Rams after serving as a graduate assistant coach at Vermont State University-Castleton since June 2024. In her role, she assisted with recruiting, opponent scouting, video analysis, academic monitoring and team operations. Murphy helped mentor goalkeeper Xander Berthiaume, who earned four Little East Conference Rookie of the Week honors and two Defensive Player of the Week awards. She also coached three all-conference selections and helped guide the team's academic success, overseeing a rise in team GPA from 3.14 to 3.56.

In addition to her collegiate coaching experience, Murphy worked with the Vermont Green Women's Team during the 2024 season, assisting with goalkeeper development, training sessions and match preparation alongside the club's coaching staff.

Murphy has also served as a head coach with Nordic Soccer Club since 2022, working with boys' and girls' teams across multiple age groups. During her tenure, she coached two Vermont state championship teams and helped guide eight student-athletes through the college recruiting process. She additionally serves as a goalkeeper director and staff coach with No. 1 Soccer Camps, where she develops and leads goalkeeper training sessions at camps nationwide.

A former collegiate goalkeeper, Murphy played at Vermont from 2022-24 after beginning her career at Buffalo. At Vermont, she was a starting goalkeeper, earned America East Honor Roll recognition, served as Student-Athlete Advisory Committee president and received the Seman Trophy in 2024. During her time at Buffalo, Murphy also served as SAAC president and helped establish a mental health initiative within the athletics department while serving on the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee.

Murphy also competed for Vermont Fusion of the Women's Premier Soccer League from 2021-23. She was a three-year starting goalkeeper, team captain, National Player of the Week honoree and First Team Northeast Conference selection, helping lead the club to conference championships and an Elite Eight appearance.
