KINGSTON, R.I. — Rhode Island women's soccer head coach Megan Jessee announced the addition of two transfers for the fall. Forward Callie Houtz (Xavier) and midfielder Basie Shannon (Idaho) will join the squad for the upcoming 2026 season.

Houtz transfers to Rhode Island after redshirting her freshman season at Xavier, where the Musketeers won the BIG EAST Championship and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. "We are really excited to be welcoming Callie to our program," said Jessee. "She is a dynamic, pacey player who has a great willingness to win. She comes from a great environment and looking forward to welcoming her shortly."

A native of Bristow, Virginia, Houtz was a four-year varsity player at Patriot High School. During her career, Patriot won the 2021 district championship and captured two regional titles, while advancing to the state championship match in 2021 and the state semifinals in 2022. Houtz also brings 14 years of club experience with Virginia Development Academy, where the program won six consecutive Mid-Atlantic Conference championships and reached the Elite Eight at nationals in 2023.

Shannon arrives in Kingston after spending two seasons at Idaho. ""We are so happy to add another to our Rhody Family," added Jessee. "Basie adds another layer to our team. She is a dynamic aerial threat, who can play both sides of the ball very well. Looking forward to seeing her thrive at Rhode Island."

Shannon appeared in one match during her sophomore season, playing 13 minutes in Idaho's 4-0 victory over UMass Lowell. A product of New Trier High School, Shannon also competed for Chicago FC United, helping the club capture the 2022 Girls Academy Champions Cup. She additionally served as captain of the U16 Maccabiah USA Team, earning a gold medal at the Maccabiah World Games.

The Rams open their 2026 campaign at the URI Soccer Complex against Maine at 7:00 p.m.
