ORONO, Maine (AP) - Royston English rushed for three touchdowns as Maine
beat Rhode Island 37-7 Saturday.
English scored the first and last touchdowns of the game, starting with a
4-yard run up the middle in the first and ending with a 14-yard rush with five
minutes left to play. He also scored from five yards out nearing the end of the
third quarter on a drive highlighted by two Dwayne Wilmot receptions.
Maine kicker Todd Jagoutz had three field goals for Maine (3-5, 1-4 Atlantic
10), including one from a career-long 48 yards in the first.
The score was set up by Maine's Brendan Curry, who stripped the ball from
Rhode Island (2-6, 2-4 Atlantic 10) quarterback Vince Nedimyer. Ben Christopher
put Maine in field goal position with a 23-yard reception after Rhode Island
defenders tipped the ball up in the air and Christopher came down with the
catch. Jagoutz also hit from 27 and 29 yards.
Maine's Jake Eaton threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Phil McGeoghan in the
third to make the score 20-0.
Rhode Island's only score came in third quarter on a 44-yard pass to Cameron
Eberheim from Nedimyer. English finished with 128 yards on the ground for
Maine.
