AKRON, Ohio - Nate Schindewolf scored 20 points and Andy Hipsher added 19 points and nine rebounds to lead Akron over Rhode Island 74-60 Wednesday night.

The Zips (2-2) destroyed the Rams from beyond the arc, connecting on 10 of their 14 3-pointers. Schindewolf was 5-of-6 and David Falknor was 3-of-5. Falknor and Emmanuel Smith , who was 2-of-3 from long range, each scored 14.

Rhode Island (1-6) was 2-of-13 on 3-point attempts. Tavorris Bell paced Rhode Island with 22 points.

Akron was on top 30-24 at the half. Bell had 10 for Rhode Island.

Bell's dunk at 13:32 in the second half cut Akron's lead to two points, 36-34. But Schindewolf responded with consecutive 3-pointers, as Akron outscored Rhode Island 23-8 over a six-minute span. Hipsher's layup gave the Zips a commanding 59-42 lead.

Akron's 71 percent shooting from 3-point range contributed to 63 percent shooting overall. Rhode Island made 38 percent.
