Football Falls To Hofstra, 30-12

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y (AP) - Rocky Butler threw two touchdown passes as Hofstra beat Rhode Island 30-12 Saturday night.

Hofstra (3-1) trailed 12-0 before scoring 30 straight points as Butler went 16-for-30 for 188 yards. He had a 6-yard TD pass to Vemba Bakula that gave Hofstra a 17-12 lead in the third quarter.

The Pride extended their advantage to 24-12 when Doug Shanahan returned an interception 39 yards. Chad Johnson added two fourth quarter field goals.

Rhode Island (0-3) built its early lead on a 14-yard scoring run by Justin Westley and a 12-yard scramble by quarterback Vince Nedimyer.

Hofstra trailed 12-3 at the half following Johnson's 19-yard field goal with 2:13 left in the second quarter.
