Fordham Edges Men's Basketball, 70-65

KINGSTON, R.I. (AP) - Arseni Kuchinsky led a surge in the second half to give Fordham a come-from-behind 70-65 win over Rhode Island Wednesday night.

Kuchinsky scored 13 of his team-high 15 points during a 23-9 Fordham run over a span of 8:06 in the second half. Fordham (9-6, 2-2 Atlantic 10) overcame a 15-point second half deficit to hand Rhode Island (4-12, 0-4) its fifth straight loss.

Kuchinsky hit a 3-pointer with 10:42 left in the game to pull Fordham within 51-40. Then, Jason Harris hit back-to-back 3-pointers during the Fordham run.

Rhode Island had its biggest lead of the game, 50-35, at the 11:17 mark of the second half after a 3-pointer by Steve Mello.

But two free throws by Kuchinsky with 3:21 to play tied the game at 60-60. Then, a dunk by Steve Canal with 1:51 remaining in the game gave Fordham its first lead, 62-60, since the 18:13 mark of the first half. Fordham never trailed after that.

Fordham hit 6-of-8 from the foul line in the final 1:07 while Rhode Island hit just one foul shot in four attempts in the last minute of the game.

Teremun Johnson and Duke Freeman-McKamey both scored 11 points for Fordham.

Dinno Daniels led Rhode Island with 19 points and Mello added 10 off the bench, all in the second half. Zach Marbury scored 15 for Rhode Island - 14 of them in the first half.
