Football Crushes Hampton, 56-7

HAMPTON, Va. (AP) - Vince Nedimyer ran for three touchdowns Saturday as Rhode Island beat Hampton 56-7.

Nedimyer had carries of 3, 1 and 3 yards for the Rams (5-0, 3-0 Atlantic 10), who scored two touchdowns every quarter.

The Pirates (3-2, 2-0) scored their lone touchdown with 2:17 left in the game when Timothy Frazier connected with David Blount on a 5-yard pass.

Rhode Island scored its first touchdown 0:21 into the game on a 36-yard interception return by Chuck Wesley.

Two of Nedimyer's touchdowns and a 6-yard carry by Luther Green gave the Rams a 28-0 lead at the end of the first half.

The gap widened in the third quarter when Wendal Williams ran for 72 yards and Isaiah Grier recovered a fumble for 61 yards.

Williams finished with 113 yards. Nedimyer was just 1-for-5 for 8 yards.
