Football Edges Northeastern, 27-26

KINGSTON, R.I. (AP) - Vince Nedimyer threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Wendall Williams' with 24 seconds remaining on Saturday to cap a 91-yard drive and lift Rhode Island to a 27-26 win over Northeastern.

Rhode Island (8-3, 6-3 Atlantic 10), which had lost three consecutive games, trailed 26-14 early in the fourth quarter but cut the margin to 26-21 on Salim Wellington's 61-yard touchdown catch from Nedimyer with 10:47 remaining.

Rhode Island took an early 7-0 lead on a 9-yard run by Nedimyer.

Northeastern (5-6, 4-5) tied it when L.J. McKanas, who rushed for 166 yards and two touchdowns, scored on a 7-yard run with a minute to play in the quarter.

The Rams led 14-10 at halftime after a 1-yard touchdown run by David Jamison and a 32-yard field goal by Northeastern's Colin Gaynor.

McKanas gave the Huskies a 17-14 lead midway through the third quarter with a 15-yard run that capped a 13-play, 80-yard drive.

Gaynor's 29-yard field goal gave the Huskies a 20-14 lead, then Quinti Mitchell returned a punt 63 yards for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter to make it 26-14.

David Jamison had 123 yards on 30 carries for Rhode Island, giving him 1,320 yards for the year, the highest single-season rushing total in school history.

Nedimyer completed 11 of 16 passes for 166 yards and two touchdowns.
