Men's Basketball Falls To Xavier, 67-49

KINGSTON, R.I. (AP) - Romain Sato scored 24 points and David West had 19 points, 11 rebounds and seven blocked shots to lead Xavier to a 67-49 win over Rhode Island on Wednesday.

Xavier (14-3, 6-0 Atlantic 10) improved its winning streak to nine games while Rhode Island (4-12, 0-5) dropped its sixth in a row.

Xavier, leading 31-20 at the half, scored the first six points of the second half to take a 37-20 lead. Two baskets by West followed by a steal and lay-up by Sato increased the lead to 47-27 with 12:37 to play.

Rhode Island drew no closer than 13 points after that.

Sato and West provided most of Xavier's first-half scoring, combining for 22 of the 31 points.

Troy Wiley carried Rhode Island, scoring 16 of his team-high 25 points in the first half. Wiley scored most of his points in the paint, but hit a long jump shot to pull Rhode Island within 24-18 with 2:35 to play in the first half.
