Ram Football Can't Hang On Against Northeastern

BROOKLINE, Mass. (AP) - Shawn Brady threw five touchdown passes to lead Northeastern past Rhode Island 38-13 on Saturday.

Northeastern (4-1, 3-1 Atlantic 10) outgained Rhode Island 543-137 in total yards and improved to 5-1 for the first time since 1967.

Rhode Island (2-4, 0-3) took a 10-7 lead on a 39-yard field goal from Shane Laisle early in the second quarter. But Brady hit Cory Parks for a TD pass to give Northeastern a 14-10 lead with 2:15 left in the second quarter, and pushed the lead to 21-10 with a 6-yard scoring pass to Eric Thomas with 2 seconds in the first half.

Following another Laisle field goal on the opening drive of second half, Brady found Thomas for a 31-yard touchdown pass that gave Northeastern a 28-13 lead. Brady's fifth TD pass of the day, a 7-yard completion to Tyler Grogan, put the Huskies ahead 35-13.

Brady completed 17-of-23 passes for 223 yards, and rushed for 41 yards. William Griffin led the Huskies rushing with 101 yards on 15 carries, and Anthony Riley gained 80 yards in 16 tries.
