Football Loses To Villanova 45-3

VILLANOVA, Pa. (AP) - Brett Gordon threw three touchdown passes as Villanova beat Rhode Island 45-3 on Saturday.

Gordon was 13-of-18 for 179 yards as the Wildcats (8-3, 5-3 Atlantic 10) ran off 42 straight points.

After Rhode Island (3-8, 1-7) tied the game at 3 on Shane Laisle's 21-yard field goal, Mo Gibson scored on a 1-yard plunge on the last play of the first quarter to put Villanova up 10-3.

In the second quarter, Gary Johnson blocked a Rhode Island punt and Villanova recovered at the 10-yard line. Three plays later, Gordon completed a 2-yard TD pass to Brian White to make the score 17-3.

Gordon also connected with Shaz Brown on a 15-yard scoring strike and Matt Chila on a 12-yard TD pass, both in the third quarter.

Rhode Island quarterback Jayson Davis rushed 26 times for 91 yards and completed 7 of 14 passes for 70 yards.
