Rhode Island Trounces Central Conn. St.

KINGSTON, R.I. (AP) - Dawan Robinson had 14 points and Rhode Island used a 17-5 run to start the second half to pull away for a 77-58 win over Central Connecticut State on Tuesday night.

Brian Woodward, who finished with 11 points, started the second half with a free throw and a 3-pointer to give the Rams (7-3) a 40-31 lead. Lazare Adingono hit a pair of free throws and a 3-pointer, and Dustin Hellenga hit two more foul shots to build the lead to 49-33 with 14:24 to play.

Rhode Island pulled ahead by as many as 26 (68-42) when Bamfield Harmon hit a 3-pointer with 5:14 to play. Adingono and Jamaal Wise both finished with 12 points.

The Rams shot 53 percent in the game, just the second time this season they have shot better than 50 percent.

Central Connecticut State (3-5), which has now lost four consecutive games for the first time since the 1997-98 season, was led by Ricardo Scott with 14 points and Ron Robinson with 11.

There were seven lead changes in a tight first half until Rhode Island used a late 8-2 run to take a 36-29 halftime lead. Hellenga made back-to-back 3-pointers and threw a lob to Wise for a dunk during the run.
