KINGSTON, R.I. (AP) - Duquesne did not score a field goal in the final 4:34
but went 17-of-22 from the foul line in that time, including 11-of-12 in the
final 53 seconds, to hold off Rhode Island 72-69 Saturday.
Kevin Forney and Wayne Smith both scored 19 points as Duquesne (8-14, 3-8
Atlantic 10) won its third consecutive game and snapped a 20-game conference
road losing streak.
Rhode Island's Lazare Adingono hit two 3-pointers in the final 12 seconds,
but both times Jon Pawlak answered with two free throws, including a pair with
1.3 seconds to play. The Dukes were 30-of-38 from the line in the game.
Dinno Daniels' 3-point attempt from midcourt as time expired was long off
the backboard.
Daniels scored 17 points, all in the second half. He had 12 points on three
3-pointers and a three-point play in the first 4:06 of the second half to help
Rhode Island (6-15, 2-8) come back from a 30-18 deficit to make it 35-30.
The Rams pulled within 42-40 on two free throws by Adingono, but Duquesne
went on a 7-0 run to retake control.
Jamal Hunter had 10 points and six assists for the Dukes and Pawlak finished
with 11. Adingono finished with 17.
